Eugene Peterson

EUGENE H. PETERSON (1932-2018) was a pastor, scholar, writer, and poet. In 1963, Eugene founded Christ Our King Presbyterian Church in Bel Air, Maryland, where he was the pastor for twenty-nine years. Following that, he was James M. Houston Professor of Spiritual Theology at Regent College in Vancouver, B.C., Canada from 1993 to 1998, and continued there as emeritus professor until 2006. He spent ten years working on The Message--a paraphrase of the Bible--translating it from the original Greek and Hebrew. He authored more than twenty books, including A Long Obedience in the Same Direction, The Contemplative Pastor, and Leap Over a Wall. Eugene died on October 22, 2018 in Montana at the age of 85. He and his wife, Jan, had three children and nine grandchildren.
